In December, Eagle Point resident Mary Kennedy won a nation-wide contest from Sunbelt Foods that awarded a pallet of snack foods for the charity of her choice.
“We knew of good things about Oak Mountain Missions [Ministries] through our church, Valleydale Church,” Kennedy said, “so I chose it.”
Kennedy and her husband, Andy, visited Oak Mountain Missions, located at 2699 Pelham Parkway, on Tuesday when the pallet was delivered.
The couple toured the warehouse space, which is filled with furniture, clothes and food, and the rooms in the building where they distribute supplies to families moving out of shelters and others in need. The mission has all the supplies well organized, thanks to an army of volunteers, and divided into separate rooms for dishes, linens, women’s clothes, men’s clothes, boys’ clothes and girls’ clothes.
“They do a lot more than we realized,” Kennedy said.
As they waited for the truck to arrive, they helped volunteers package groceries into bags, and seeing empty shelves, Kennedy began to brainstorm ways she could bring food to the shelter.
Oak Mountain Missions welcomes donations to their Pelham location at any time during business hours. They have a list of current needs available online. For more information, visit OakMtnMissions.com.
